I had the honour of receiving the Ambassador of the Russian Federation on his first official visit to the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology. This historic engagement marks a new chapter in Nigeria–Russia collaboration, with far-reaching implications for our national development and international partnerships.
The Ministry engaged in a productive dialogue with Ambassador Sergey and his delegation on key areas.
Highlights of Our Engagement:
• Artificial Intelligence: Russia emphasized its advanced AI capabilities, with discussions on applications in agriculture already underway.
• Education & Training: Russia currently offers 220 scholarships to Nigerian students annually, with potential to expand to 500+
• Innovation & Industry Linkages: Plans to connect FMIST with Russian innovation agencies, conferences, and exhibitions—including opportunities in atomic energy and economic zones.
• Biotechnology & Agriculture: Collaboration prospects in gene sequencing, greenhouses, seed technology, enzyme production, and local insulin manufacturing.
• Energy Access & Clean Cooking: Shared proposals to deliver 5MW per local government area, alongside innovative low-pressure compressed natural gas (LPCNG), domestic gas storage solutions, with potential partnerships involving Gazprom and other Russian energy firms.
• Trade & Investment: Reinforced commitment to align with existing frameworks to create pathways for Russian private sector investments in Nigerian free trade zones.
A joint Nigeria–Russia follow-up committee will be established to drive forward high-tech, energy, and biotechnology projects, ahead of the next Russia–Nigeria Intergovernmental Commission Meeting proposed for early 2026 in Moscow.
This visit reinforces President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in the areas of technology transfer, industrialization, food security, clean energy, and capacity building. Together with our Russian partners, we are determined to transform opportunities into tangible results that benefit every Nigerian.
